Fort Sarbinowo, built between 1883 and 1887 as an artillery fort, is located near Kostrzyn in Poland. When built it formed part of a ring of forts around Kostrzyn but it soon became obsolete due to the development of military technology. The fort was however used in World War I, when it was lit by oil lamp and used carrier pigeons to communicate with the outside world. Today it is a crumbling ruin, the bricks used to construct it being of a poor quality, time, frost and moisture have contributed to the decay.
